I have had to replace the starter in my 99 taurus 3 times and every time I change the starter it cranks one maybe two times and does not kicks out anymore. The starter only spins and makes a noise like a grinder but doesn't kicks out to the flywheel! I just replaced the engine can anyone shed a little light on my situation! Thanks

Wondering if it's the right starter for the engine, or it may need shimming.

Remanufactured starter? It may also be a problem with the over-running clutch, which the remanufacturer did not catch. I own a 2000 Taurus, with the 3.0L Duratec engine, and these cars are not known for starter problems. Be sure to clean the starter motor connections thoroughly. Ground is through the mounting bolts, so ensure they are clean.
