So the story is this:
My older brother stole a 1995 Gibson Epiphone EJ-200 acoustic guitar, a Dean bass guitar,
Numerous patch cables, two practice amplifiers, and two Boss guitar effect pedals.
Total value of equipment is over $2500.00 CDN
What steps do I need to take to recover my stolen property, and also make sure
That he is penalized to the fullest extent of law?

First you file a Police Report. Have you done that?

Nope.
I was kind of hoping he'd just give it back, but it appears he's not going to do that.
To the police station, I guess.

Right. You could sue him for the value in Small Claims Court but if you never filed with the Police you'll have to explain why.

I know this isn't legal advice but if it was me, I would tell him that I am going to report it all stolen unless he has it back to me within an hour. I would make sure he understands that I am serious and then I would follow through with the threat if he didn't deliver.

His deadline for having the stuff back to me is tomorrow.
After that, I already told him that I'll be filing a report.
I'm not really interested in suing him for the value;
I just want to make sure that he pays the consequence for his choices.

Hopefully he'll return it. If he does not hopefully the Court will force him to return it - or the money.
When you can't trust your brother, who can you trust?
