I went to start my 03 Ford Windstar and put it in reverse but it wouldn't go anywhere. I tried putting it in drive and it still wouldn't budge. I moved the gearshifter up and down slowly to see if I could hear it go into gear but there was nothing. I shut my van off and tried it again, still nothing. I checked the tranny fluid, that was fine. What do you think the problem is? Is it going to cost a pretty penny?

Check to see if the shift cable is moving when you move the shift lever. You'll need to do this with the engine off and someone looking at the cable while someone else is moving the lever.

If the problem persists, focus on the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS), located on top of the transaxle. It may need adjusting or replacing. Test all under hood and under dash fuses with a test light or multimeter. Finally, check for codes.
