I'm a university student and I was recently doing a study about female hormones. In pregnancy, I was wondering if I drastic drop of synthetic hormones would cause a miscarriage?I know there's been no real studies, but for example if a girl was 10 weeks pregnant and started taking because at 6weeks, when she stopped taking it at 10 weeks would the drop of synthetic progesterone cause a miscarry?

A few questions:

Would she have been taking the progesterone due to a known low level?

Is it known that her level is too low to sustain a pregnancy on its own?

What would be the purpose of her taking the progesterone if her level was normal?

Many women, with a known history of miscarriage and low progesterone levels, will be prescribed progesterone to take in the early weeks of pregnancy to help prevent a miscarriage. A deficient level is actually a common cause for early miscarriage. Several weeks into the pregnancy, progesterone levels usually are high enough on their own for the woman to wean off the added progesterone.

If her levels are adequate on their own, a miscarriage shouldn't result. Anyone using supplemental progesterone should be monitored before decreasing the amount or stopping its use.

Not sure if that helps at all... :)

thank you! Well no the woman would not have to be taking it. Suppose she could carry a normal pregnancy and hypothetically started taking synthetic birth controls and stopped randomly, wondering if that would make it drop enough for the woman to miscarry
