I am wanting to add my married last name to my daughters birth certificate as a hyphen. Not remove her birth father's name just add mine. My husband has been more of a father to her than her birth father. She wants to have the same last name as we do. She was born in Okla but we've lived in Texas the last 6 years. Do I do this in Okla?

You would have to have his consent for the name change and petition for it in court in OK.

Would that be possible to do without an attorney? I don't need the birth fathers approval correct?

You can do it without an attorney, but you will need consent from the birth father. You will find it very difficult if not impossible to accomplish without his consent.

Really? I thought as long as I wasn't changing it as in taking his name off that I wouldn't have to. Guess I better have my attorney get busy on it. Thank you!
