Nov 26, 2004, 02:25 AM
I have had brown spots on my hands for three weeks now and it doesn't spread to anywhere else on my body but just from one hand to other. It started as a blister that would never pop and purplish skin to brown peeling skin. But the skin that has been peeling is red and weird looking, please help,
Ginger

I also had several brown blotches on my right palm. They flaked away after two days. Then, seven days later, hard bumps rose in their place. They won't go away and no doctors I have seen know what they are or how to treat them. They are hard to the touch, and quite sensitive, though I was able to play a tennis match today (the pain or discomfort is quite managable). PLEASE HELP!

My doctor just looked at it and he said it might be fytophotodermititis. This means that some fruit juice (I think mine was mango peel) made my skin extra sensitive to uv rays. He said people do get sunburns on the souls of their feet and on the palm of their hands this way. I even showed him a couple of pictures of my hand from when they had the brown marks.

Apparently, mango also has the same chemical in its peel as poison ivy, so one can sensitize you to the other. So if the bumps on my hand are actually poison ivy, that explains the other rashes on my arms (though one website I found said that forearm rashes are typical of fytophotodermatitis as well).
