When I am washing a load of laundry when it's time for the washer to drain the water the floor drain right in front of the washing machine backs up and water comes out It drains back down within a minute or so but it shouldn't be backing up at all. What can I do to fix it? I thought I remembered inside the drain over the little hole there use to be a little cover thing but when I looked today I didn't see anything except for black fluid sitting in it. Can some one please give me some good tips? I would greatly appreciate any help!

It sounds like you have a partially clogged drain line here... ;)

If the washer drain has a cleanout I would suggest that you snake the drain using an electric hand-held snake (or floor model electric snake) and snake the drain out past the floor drain. Otherwise, you can try snaking through the floor drain, but the PTRAP will certainly offer resistance and make the job harder to complete. You can rent an electric snake at almost any tool rental store.

If you have a vent that is exclusive to the washer drain, AND your roof is not sloped to the extreme, you could also snake down the vent and be sure to go well past the floor drain.

Snake the drain multiple times using water to flush the drain periodically as you snake the drain, OK?

Be sure to wear safety goggles and leather gloves when using power equipment.
