Well the furnace isn`t going to come on until the pilot lite is working, not knowing what kind of pilot light you have it's a hard guess,, I would say it would be good to clean the pilot assembly real good, there are several different types of pilots and igniters, maybe you can tell us more

I apologize for the lack of info, I had posted my question about 4 times before it would even post on this board... I had almost given up asking/re-typing when the post finally appeared.
Thanks for responding!
It's a 19 year old NG converted to LP. I woke up yesterday with the furnace off. I tried relighting the pilot flame but it would not stay on, when I released the knob the flame would just die out no matter how long I waited.

Hello,, I`m hopeing you have good supply of LP, sometimes whe LP tanks get low the pressure is so low it doesn`t get to the furnace well
It sounds like you might need to replace the thermocouple,, it is a small tube that screws into the gas valve and runs to the pilot assembly, the purpose of this part is when you light the pilot and hold button down the heat from flame causes gas inside thermocouple to expand and open the gas valve just enough for the pilot to burn without holding button down.. they are inexpensive,, under 10 bucks normally. Most any hardware keeps them in stock,, there's not a lot of thermocouples still in use, probably the last 15 years they have been replaced with electronic igniters
Good luck

Thanks! It wasn't the most convenient location with the gas control in the way but after taking that off the job was simple, actually took less time to replace the TC than it did getting to it. My local hardware had the TC for 6 bucks. Works like a charm!
