I'm 19 years old and I want to start using contraception. I don't smoke and I am not overweight. My friend recommended Yasmin. But, I have recently seen commercials that show people suing the company that makes Yaz or Yasmin for serious side effects such as blood clots and stroke. The articles I have read are from years ago. I was wondering just how dangerous it is now and if any updates have occurred in the side effects of it.

Just pick a different one. I'm on one that you only get your period every 3 months. There are lots of them out there, so if there's any doubt, just puck another.

All birth control pills come with the risks of blood clots and strokes and Yasmin is no different than the rest. I started using Yasmin at 16 and was on it for two years with no serious side effects. It did however make me constantly fell nauseous to the point where I eventually stopped taking it. Of course everyone reacts differently to certain medications and it may have just been a side effect that only I experienced, but in my opinion it come with the same risks as any other type of birth control.
