Hello, could someone please tell me who sings the song that is played in the bodyguard where frank and rachel are on their date in the bar. It's a country song by a male artist but don't know who? PLEASE HELP!
Thank you :)

Hi, it's a few years since I watched this film, but I do have the soundtrack. There aren't many tracks by male singers and I think the one you're thinking about could be 'Trust in me' by Joe Cocker featuring Sass Jordan, this sounds quite 'countryish'. The other one it might be is called 'Even if my Heart Would Break' by Aaron Neville and Kenny G. Hope this helps.

If you're thinking of the guy who sings "I Will Always Love You," that would be John Doe, who was a member of the influential band X in the 1980s. Since then, he's recorded a few solo albums.
It kills me that his version is not available on the soundtrack - or any other CD that I know of. Doe has one of those "so-rough-it's-right" kind of voices. I'd much rather hear him than Whitney. (For that matter, I prefer Dolly Parton's original to Whitney's.)
Hope this helps!

Yea, I prefer Dolly Parton's original as well, didn't she sing that in a film as well? I'm going to try and find the John Doe version as well now and give that a listen.

I _think_ that Dolly's version was used in the closing credits of BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS, but I'm not positive.
However, I think the song predates that movie, too.
Good luck!

Hello, all involved in the subject! Guys, I'm so glad I found you! I'm from Russia and yesterday, surfing the chennels I found The Bodyguard on TV, so I watched it, do not remember how many time I had watched it before... And I listened to that song again. So many sweet memories covered me... I've laways asked myself why it is not in the soundtrack? I love it much more than Whitney Houston's version. I found this question today and started checking in the net, the only mail variant I found was Kenny Rogers's here Barnes & Noble.com - Music: 20 Best of Kenny Rogers, Kenny Rogers, CD, Digi-Pak (http://music.barnesandnoble.com/search/product.asp?ean=56775499921&z=y)
But he doesn't sound like one in the movie.
Billnut, thank you very very much! I spent one hour but in vain. You helped a lot. Butr I do not know if I find a track by John Doe here... :(((( Anyway guys, nice to know you like this song either!
If anyone finds an option to listen to it on-line please give us link. I wll so grateful for this! Please share. I will try as well, but not sure I know where to search... in Russian sites cannot find for sure... :(

Dear Natalya (and anyone else),
I did a little research. The John Doe version of the song was only released as a cassette single (?? ) in 1992. It has NEVER been on an official CD. I saw one site that mentioned a promotional CD, but it has Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner talking over John Doe's version.
I tried to find copies of the cassette, but it's not available.
I agree with you that it's very frustrating. It's almost as if someone (the record company? Whitney Houston's agent? Whitney herself?? ) was afraid that people who heard the John Doe version might like it more than Houston's version.
Actually, they're right! John Doe's (and Dolly Parton's) understated but intense approach is much more effective than Houston's yelling that she'll always love you.
The best thing about the BODYGUARD soundtrack is the fact that it has a cover of "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace Love and Understanding?" and so has made Nick Lowe a WHOLE lot of money.
In any event, thanks for your message. Das vadanya! (Sorry if I spelled that incorrectly. Your English is MUCH better than my Russian!)

Dear Billnut and the others interested..
Thanks a lot again, Bill. Thanks for time you spent on searching. My efforts were not awarded as well :( No option to listen to it, even a bit. I don't think I can ever find this cassettte. I'll live it through after a few days. But yesterday, when I heard it again it really impressed me. Do not know why it makes me crying... there is so much intense in it!
Although Whitney sings 100 times louder, I love Joe's version more.
So, what can I do about it? Just start the movie and listen to a little bit of it :)
That would be nice to hear it in some bar one day sponteniously... so romantic!
I think you're right Bill about the others trying to hide it. I came across some even German forums where people asking about it song! Some even do not know it is a man singing :) I cannot even imagine how popular this song would have been if... you know what I mean.
Uhhhh... so much writing! If anyone can find this cassette overseas ( I live in Russia and I cannot), I'm ready to pay for it good money!
Bill, thanks for replying and searching!! By the way... you spell it correctly ;)
