I know I'm only 17 but I've never really had a 'relationship', 'date' before. I don't want to really rush into adulthood, but still I would like a boyfriend. :) I am really nervous at talking with people I'm not extremely close to, which is a real down side when I talk to guys. There's a guy I have an interest in, however I get scared to really talk to him as he's a completely different social group to me. When I do talk to him I am blunt and, well *****y and give an impression I really do not like him :/. If I do this all the time is anybody ever going to like me? How can I get anyone to even like me? Thanks for your help! :D

Are you involved in any activities, hobbies, clubs, etc. where you can get more experience in talking to and working with other people including males? If you are comfortable in an environment, it can help you relax and learn to communicate better with other people.

If you know you have a habit of being snappish, then tell yourself to think before you say anything. A very short pause can help you be less reactive.

Don't concentrate on just one person. It can keep you from seeing the person standing next to you who might be just as shy as you are. Have you ever heard the very old song, 'I'm looking over a four-leaf clover'?

Learning to relax seems harder than it is. But the more comfortable you are with yourself, the more comfortable you will be with others-male and female.

In addition to what Cat1864 already mentioned, about joining more activities, clubs, etc...

There's no need to have a boyfriend for that sake of having one. Since you appear to be a shy person, why not focus on making more friends. There's less pressuing in meeting new friends rather than searching for a boyfriend. Once you make new friends, you will feel more comfortable interacting with people, including any guys that you may be attracted to. And then things will flow more naturally then.

Be yourself! Men can sense when you are tense. They do like women who interact with them and smile when we tak to them. I find being single is a good thing. You can rediscover or discover who you are and also get to know yourself better. Strengthening your self-esteem!
