View Full Version : Why can't he file?

My husband and I were separated for a while, and he never filed his taxes last year for 2010. (he is mentally handicapped, and didn't know how) I was going through paperwork and such, and he said he didn't file last year. So I was going to take care of it. But turbo tax won't let me file his 2010 w-2. I tried to do it separately, AND with our 2011 taxes, and it keeps saying we can't.

Can someone explain this to me? Can we file it later? Or is it too late? He won't owe anything, he usually gets a return. But I'm confused why it won't let him file

You would need to use the software for 2010. You will have to print and mail the return.
Amazon has discounts for older versions of Turbotax.

BTW, same applies for the STATE tax return.

Since the returns must be mailed in any event, you MAY want to go to the IRS website (www.irs.gov) and your state tax website to see about printing out the 2010 forms and just complete them manually.

It is likely that the Form 1040EZ can be used for the federal return and the simplest form for the state return can also be used. While not quite as easy as using TurboTax, it should not be TOO hard, and you can save on the cost of buying the 2010 software.
