My wife and I are buying our first house and the contractior has just laid the slab for the foundation. We asked if we can get a whirlpool tub and not the standart tub that they putting in the master bath room. His reply what the pipes have beenlaid and they can not do it. This seems kind of funny and I wonder if this is the case?? We told him that we would pay the diffrence in the price up front. You would think bu looking at the lines as they come up all you need too do is maby reposition them and rase the tub up some.

Ask your plumber, he will gladly receive your money to move the pipe below the floor. Is the whirlpool going to change the wall layout? Is the pump and the drain going to be accessible for future repairs? Is the whirlpool a drop in or does it have a skirt like a standard tub? I usually set my tubs in a brick mortar mix base so the tub does not move or flex. This makes it much more stable.

Just remembered something else. How much extra for the change of tubs? The plumber has already bid the job, if you buy the whirlpool and bring it to them they will not warranty the tub at all. If it is broken at any time it and the labor are not covered. If you let the plumber buy the tub you choose then it will be marked up accordingly and warranteed. After he gives you a price on the change order, ask him if you got a credit on the previous tub. Also the whirlpool may require a special tub waste, which will be another extra. What brand of faucet is going in your house? Is the faucet for the whirlpool a wall mount or a deck mount?
