In a 2003 editorial ,CNN's Eason Jordon admitted that the press corp in Bagdad had for years intentionally avoided covering news that made Saddam Hussein and his regime look as bad as they were.
The News We Kept to Ourselves - Op-Ed - NYTimes.com (http://www.nytimes.com/2003/04/11/opinion/11JORD.html)

They did this to protect their sources ;their personel in Iraq and to guarantee access .

Perhaps they had a justification for this even though they have often compromised other sources and their reporters if there was a story to tell.

That being said... there is no comparable threats that I know of that restricts the White House press corp. Yet ,it is very clear that they have for the last 3 years participated in a cover-up or under reported some of the most controversial and scandalous news from the current occupants.

Oh I know that CBS's Sharyl Attkisson got a severe tongue lashing for daring to report details of the 'Fast And Furious 'scandal. We know that most of the details of the Solyndra scandal have been swept under the rug .

But why would they stoop so low as to help cover up for over 2 years the details of a potentially embarrassing extravagant Halloween party the Obamas threw in the middle of the Great Recession ?

If you haven't heard the details yet; the Obama's threw a very modest party at the White House in 2009 for public consumption that the press was glad to give great details about.

Then ;they retreated inside the White House where an extravagant "Alice in Wonderland" theme party;decorated with the help of director Tim Burton ,and featuring Johnny Depp in his Mad Hatter costume was held .

This little detail was completely covered up by the White House with the assist of the compliant press. The coverup was so extensive that they did not even enter Tim Burton and Johnny Depp's name in the White House guest log. The official White House blog post from 2009 covering Halloween made no mention of this party .
Trick or Treat | The White House (http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2009/11/01/trick-or-treat)

The facts of the party were well known and available to the fan blogs of Depp ,so the news was out there . And yet nothing about the party made it to the networks . Photos of the party also made it onto the blogs and some European publications . Still the American press practiced 'omerta' . Oh us rightys would've made fun of the whole thing and all that but still... the coverup over it seems strange... as if we have already crossed through that looking glass.

The PJ Tatler The only known photos from the White House's 2009 “Alice in Wonderland” party (http://pjmedia.com/tatler/2012/01/09/the-only-known-photos-from-the-white-houses-2009-alice-in-wonderland-party/)

Anyone in the press corp that wanted to break this story in the last 2 years had plenty of time to expose it.

Why didn't they ? Where was the Saddam like threat ? Or was it that they covet their position in the inner sanctum that they completely abandon integrity ?
We did not learn the details of this party until Jodi Kantor ;a NY Slimes reporter added it in her expose book called 'The Obamas ' Did the Slimes keep the lid on this story so it would be a book seller at some later date ?
There are other details in this book about intrigues within factions inside the White House . Perhaps that explains why the President is on his 4th Chief of Staff in 3 years ;and has all but lost all his economic advisors through resignation .

If they are willing to go through such intrigues to cover up something as minor and seemingly trivial as this ,then what else have they kept from us ?

I've been saying that since Desert Shield, and their coverage of Desert Storm was nearly a work of fiction... as I was intimately involved in aspects of that few other people were. I saw what happened as opposed to what they later reported.

I never believed they were honsest about anyting... much like NPR, MSNBC and CBS.

Like Jeremiah Wright and Obama's shameless, unconstitutional power grab last week also? You can be darn sure they're going to talk about how those knuckle-dragging Republicans want to ban contraceptives, though.

But they want to appoint Obama as president for life... damned what the law says, and damned if the constitution gets in the way of his agenda... He's the Messiah after all and laws are for mere mortals, not gods.

That's Obamas party, not the tea party... didn't you see the news, they had that at the White house... Seriously... Johhny Dep was in full costume from Alice in Wonderland.

For some reason we do not get the most trivial items originating in your fair land, we have enough trivialities of our own to consider. I particularly like your most recent offering to emerge here, a large percentage of the US air force is piloted by robots,

http://www.news.com.au/technology/sci-tech/one-in-three-us-warplanes-is-a-robot-says-congressional-research-service/story-fn5fsgyc-1226242516783

I guess that lines up with the staffing of the White House.

Not surprised... the lefty press did a good job of hiding that from the public for almost 2 years before it got out.

And about the drones... not really surprised. There are a lot of places they make more sense. Many don't need an airstrip to fly from, they are cheaper... and pilots aren't put at risk in dangerous situations when a loss of a drone is acceptable to gather the intel.

Smoothy you do realise we are talking about thousands of the things?

Yes I do... Spy satellites can only do so much... these can fill in the slack anywhere needed... with a smaller less vulnerable ground force where needed, as needed.
