I live in Tennesse and got an apartment on my own and advised my landlords that my boyfriend will be moving in with me several months later. He did so and now has become violent and is in prison for an extended time but I don't want him to return here. His clothing is here, which I could give to family members but they advised I may not be able to simply tell him he can't be here. He is not on the lease and has never contributed to any bills in the house except for a few months before he went to prison he qualified for food stamps due to his continued unemployment and bought groceries. What is the easiest way to legally get him out? His ID has this address because he lost his old one in prison and he has no other residence that he's maintaining so I know he's established residence here. Also, do I need to notify my landlord that I'm trying to get him out?

No you don't need to notify his landlord. But this is a tricky one since he is not living there.

I would send him a letter telling him that you no longer want him in your life and asking him where to send his belongings. If he doesn't respond, send another letter stating that if he doesn't tell you where to send his belongings within 30 days you will put them in storage at his expense.

My brother was weary because of all the posts about establishing residence and wondered if we can get our landlord to evict me on our month-to-month as I'm the only one on the lease and then subsequent to the eviction day sign a new lease with my brother if that would terminate my ex's residence and it would make things easier but I'll send him a letter in the meantime.

If you have a month to month lease, your landlord can probably just offer you a new lease, doing an eviction is not necessary.
