Since December 1st my 2 year old beagle blue tick has lost about 5-8 lbs(I can see all his ribs and his hip bones) and he sleeps a lot more. He has been neutered( 1 year ago.) He does eat but we've had to buy a different brand of dog food. He has no problems using the bathroom. If we do something he will follow us around but if we are just laying around all he does is sleep. He is inside when we are home and outside in a barn when we are not home. I don't know if something is wrong or if he's just getting older.

Have you wormed him? Examined his stools, or taken them to the vet?

2 years is not old, he should be a pretty happy go lucky guy at that age. That being said, it does not mean he can't have medical problems. At the very least you should take in a stool sample to be checked for intestinal parasites. If you have a regular vet they should be willing to do that for you. It is a good starting place.

Okay it's been two months not since December first I had to look at the calender. Within the last two months he's changed. Stopped eatting the dog food, lost weight and I can see his ribs and hip bones, he sleeps a lot more. I bought him Iams healthy something and he's eatting it now. When I first noticed him he has lost weight. I thought maybe he was backed up so I gave him half of an adult intimia and he used the bathroom it was runs at first then solid small stool. (this was November 15th somewhere around there) Took him to vet they did blood test they said he was fine... they gave me some Aloh in surgenges and also metoclopramide. Those didn't seem to do any difference that was on a thrusday on that following Monday I called another Dr because the one I went to was the only one open and I didn't like him. I took him to a different Dr and he did the some test and the next day he said that everything was okay and came back good..

It's been two months since this all started and he's still sleeping a lot, you can still see his ribs and hips, he poops pees and eats fine. Just don't know what's wrong with him and I'm hoping that you could suggest something or maybe have heard something like this to help me. Thank you for your time.

I had sent you back a reply this morning very early but my computer froze up, so I apologize that you didn't get that.
The short of that message was: That the medications you were given are for gastric problems such as reflux or heartburn.
So I'm wondering what testing they did now, do you know if they tested for intestinal parasite? And as far as the bloodwork, Blood sugar? Kidney? Liver? If so they ruled out quite a bit.
Animals can have thyroid and malabsorption problems, and other things, unfortunately the only way to find out is through more testing. I do understand that finding out what is wrong can get costly.
My advice would be to have a heart to heart with the Vet of your preference to discuss what has been done so far (gather all your records from the other Vet so that he has access to that information)ask questions and voice your concerns. If cost is a concern ask if they offer a payment plan or know of agencies in the area that may be willing to help you. And talk about what is your next most logical step, given what has already been done.
Good Luck and sorry this got so long,
I wish I could be of more help.
There is no charge for a phone call and he should be willing to consult with you.
