My kenmore fridge is model #10656532400. The tag on the inside says that it has r134a in it.

The problem is that when it's too cold the freon will flow into the compressor when it's off. To prevent this problem put a light (100 watts) close to it so that it stays above freezing. The temperature of the compressor just has to be warmer than the freezer.

Both great answers. Most refrigerators will not work at low temps. My cabin frig stops working at around 44 degrees. When the temp of the box is about 37 degrees and the outside air is below 44 the compressor stops running so it won't freeze your refrigerator box but then the freezer is also getting no freon so it actually starts to warm up to be equal to the box. A normal freezer keeps food near zero.
