You have the right to anything you have your name on the deed or title of. So if you own a car in just your name, you own it, If you have a car in your and his name, you will have to try and buy his half from him.

Where do you live, there are specific rules to common law, an insurance company saying so, does not make it so for divorce court.

You do have one lever to use. The fact that he has illegally claimed you on his taxes. However, if you filed as married or you filed a separate return, you could also be in trouble with the IRS.

What? Illinois does not recognize common law. Domestic partnerships are people who WOULD get married but the law does not allow it - for example, gay and lesbian couples.
