My regular Comcast account blew up so I've been using my gmail account that's actually my work email. Recently, I got a message that said it was sent on dec. 27 but I got it on dec. 30. Also, my friend supposedly emailed me this really important school-related thing, but I haven't got it yet and it's been a day. I called her up and she said she sent it again but I STILL haven't gotten it. I've tried refreshing the page and logging out and in again, but no new messages pop up. What to do? :(

Sorry but this is one of those "you get what you pay for" things... It free so all you can do if you aren't happy is get another someplace else. (that applies equally to Yahoo, Hotmail or any other "FREE" email service)

Google isn't getting a dime from you so they have no incentive to pay someone to spend time on this... however if it's a system wide thing... they will know about it and be working on it.

Wish I had a better answer than that... but I'd recommend getting Comcast to fix that account you actually are paying them for. You have a real expectation of service with that one... and leverage because you pay for it.
