View Full Version : Water coming out of the tub faucet & the shower head at the same time?

Ok, so we just installed a new Delta Linden series tub/shower set a couple days ago. We got the Monitor 17 series that has the pressure handle and the temperature handle. When the water is turned on, it seems to come out the spout OK then it starts running out of the shower head. I also noticed today that I have to turn the pressure handle almost all the way before the water turns on. I called Delta and they said it was a plumbing issue. Go figure... We installed shutoff valves after the copper pipe came through the floor, just to make things easier. Then we switched to 1/2" plastic. I guess I have 2 questions then... Why is it running out of the shower instead of all coming out of the spout? And why does the water not start coming out tntil the handle is almost all the way on? Kind of new at all this but I thought we had it all installed correctly... ugh.

Can you post some pics of the install? We can start there.

Just figured out how... Thanks! And the surround is already there so had to go with plastic pipe since can't solder copper on now.

A few more questions. Does the spout have a pull up diverter?
What's the house PSI? Do you have a PRV, pressure reducing valve, (see image) installed where the water enters your house? If the house pressure's too high that would cause your problem. What's the house PSI? Back to you, Tom

The spout does have the pull up diverter to make the shower work. And it does work. We are going to check water pressure today. We just.bought the house about 5 months ago and the plumbing has been the biggest issue. There is a PRV in the garage that we had messed with when we moved in cause the pressure was too low and pipes would bang like crazy. Will write back when after we check pressure... thanks

There's no doubt in my mind your house pressure's too high. The average house pressure's 45PSI with the top limit at 80 PSI. I would scale your pressure back to about 60 PSI. Good luck, Tom

Ok, so we bought a cheap 1 handled (instead of the 2 handle with separate pressure & temperature control) and found that it has a different cartridge in it and it let the water flow freely when turning it on. The first one we bought doesn't let the water start until the pressure control knob is almost all the way turned on. So there's either something defective with the cartridge or a flawed design. But the shower rise was more of an issue since there's no pressure control. Ugh... this is getting too complicated!

Also, we found that we need to install a new pressure reducing valve on the main line which may help with the "shower rise" issue. But the handle issue still has me stumped. Anyone else have a Delta one like this?

One more time. What is your house PSI? Let's get one thin fixed before we start on another. Hope your holidays were happy ones. Tom
