I have a Kenmore Series 70 washer, Model 110.24712300, SM 9711031A. The bottom half of the agitator works fine, but the top half which is supposed to draw the clothes down doesn't work properly. When I remove the fabric softener cup assembly I can see the gear teeth molded into the agitator and the part with the four 'fingers' that are supposed to reach out and grab these teeth to spin the top half of the agitator. They don't work. Are they supposed to fly out freely with the centrifugal force of the spinning action and operate like a clutch? Or is there a part that's broken that actually pushes them out?
