I always get fissures (small cuts) between my vagina and anus after sex... is this normal? I have no other symptoms besides the actual tear/cut itself, and the only time I'm uncomfortable is when I urinate. I understand the fissures are normal, but why do I get them almost every time I have sex? Chemical imbalance? Herpes (hopefully not, but after reading a lot online, it's the conclusion I make)? Rough sex? HELP!

Most likely insufficient natural lubrication... perhaps if you try something like KY Jelly or another product like it.. and see if that helps?

Your partner should be more cautious, enter and thrust more carefully and slowly, make sure there is adequate lubrication.

These fissures can easily infect.

To be honest that's never happened to me or neither have I heard anyone get that but it sounds like it could be rough sex. You should try rubbing vaseline and see if it goes away in a few days. Or if it doesn't go away I would see a doctor but either way its always best to go to the professionals if you'r really concerned. Hope this helped, best of luck

Vasoline is not a good sexual lubricant. In fact, vasoline can destroy a condom.

Its normal Hi I am an LVN and I myself get these especially on the left side it could be caused by dry friction try using lube keep the area clean and dry! Take a break from sex and slow down on rough sex like I said use lube!Don't use vasoline that a NO NO! Go to the doctor she can prescribe you some ointment so the small cut doesn't get infected and also check you for STD's or Yeast :) Thanks

Have you had a child? Perhaps an episeotomy? Ever since mine, I always get small tears there, and I simply have to keep the area clean and let them heal, and like others said, be more careful.

I have had this problem for a year and a half straight and I am seeing many other women say the same thing. Furthermore, the answers are so unsatisfactory and I am frustrated! I have been to the gynecologist, dermatologist, and a holistic doctor over this. I have been given hydrocortisone which, AS A WARNING, can permanently damage your skin via thinning if overused (I can thank my gyno for recommending this damaging solution to me). My dermo suggested organic lube internally and epishield (lauricidin cream) externally as a barrier. Again, it was of little help. My holistic doctor put me on a cocktail of things, including shakes for my digestive system (her philosophy is that skin issues are your insides showing outward symptoms) in addition to lauricidin pellets, iodine, zinc, A, and 5-htp for stress management. This helped my issue get about 30% better but I have plateaued. I am unhappy with the lack of information on this issue despite the number of women suffering, and I am exceptionally upset that people keep telling women it's the position, size of the partner, roughness of the sex, lack of lubrication, etc. None of these are true. My only suggestion to you ladies is to be checked for lichen sclerosis. I do not have this, but women with similar symptoms have been diagnosed with the afore-mentioned problem. We need to figure this out because I know from experience how damaging this problem is to your sex life and self-confidence over time. Hope this helps!

Yea, I've heard estrogen cream can help. It thickens the skin, improves blood flow, and helps maintain health down there.
I haven't tried it, but heard good things from people who truly needed it.
