Hi, I'm 26, and about 6 weeks ago my girlfriend of over 7 years broke up with me. She is about 3 years younger, started a new job under a year ago (accountant and training to be chartered including college, exams etc), and almost out of nowhere a couple of months ago became upset and said that she needed some space and time to think, as she said she didn't understand her head and feelings towards me, us and what she wanted.

Being together so long, we had spoken about our future very much, we both have the same morals and goals in life, and I have never tried to control her, let her go on holidays to see her brother in Thailand every year (I could not always go as started my own business 6 years ago), and it has hit me pretty bad. I am up and down like a yo-yo, one day I can think it's OK, plenty more fish in the sea etc, then a while later I am the opposite and having bad thoughts. She still talks to me (not often as I don't provoke conversations which could make myself look like a leach), and said that she wanted to still be best friends which I think will be nigh on impossible, though I don't and haven't gone through any "hate" stage yet, I'm just absolutely gutted.

I was going to propose, and we are also going on holiday next week to Thailand with 4 of my friends and her brother will be over there whom we all know due to me. I know through word of mouth she has also struggled, but not said anything to me, and we haven't spoken about "us" at all since we split, even though I want to beg her to take me back a million times.

Does anyone have any advice? I can't take my mind off her, and going out with friends and seeing other girls just make me pine for her even more when I see how little I have in common with other girls, or how I see how few I actually find any attraction to!
