My mother is 56 yrs. Old and has a 2 yr. Old daughter that she adopted. My mother was laid off 3 months after adopting the baby in 2009 . Now it seems her world has been turned upside down she lost her house and now they are homeless in Atlanta Ga. Is there any organization that may assist her in finding a home for her and my sister

How awful for someone who did a good deed by adopting and now is really down on her luck! There should be help from:

Catholic Charities
Lutheran Social Services
Area churches
Township and county social service offices
Local counselors and social workers

Call the library reference desk for more resources for that area.

Homeless Shelters for Women & Children in Atlanta, GA | eHow.com (http://www.ehow.com/info_7961107_homeless-women-children-atlanta-ga.html)

Welcome to Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children (http://atlantadayshelter.org/)

women in transition | YWCA of Greater Atlanta (http://ywcaatlanta.org/women-transition)

Good Samaritan Homeless Center for Women with Children (Atlanta) - Good Samaritan Homeless Center for Women with Children (Atlanta) Atlanta Georgia (http://www.homelessshelterdirectory.org/cgi-bin/id/shelter.cgi?shelter=7506)

These are a start. But I will also say, you are her daughter, have you taken her in at this point yet to allow her someone to live?

I also have a couple of other contacts in Atlanta, does she have any drug or drinking problems, there are some groups that specialize in those.

Not that I thought she was, If she was, there are several other programs for women with children, one where I have some dealings from time to time.

But also there is a large Anglican church down town on Peachtree that has a homeless mission. Catholic Charities in Atlanta helps everyone regardless of religion.

I know that the Salvation Army and the Goodwill both have large programs for the homeless in Atlanta.

She also of course needs to apply for food stamps, make sure the child is on Peachcare for free medical care. She needs to look into social services for medicaid for her.
Also for medical needs, Grady Hospital and their clinic will take anyone that can not pay.

Samaritian Purse, also have clinics all around to help those with no money for medical needs.

What type of job training or job skills does she have.
