I'm 63 years old and on ss my wife is 50 years old and can not work and can't get ssdi. We got a letter from the state property tax that we owe 8000.00 back tax on our mobile home. They ( the tax people )sent us a letter saying that they put a lien on the mobile home.It a 1984 and not worth $8000.00. If they sell it for lest then tax owe can they sell other things in the home to make up the difference or not. And what is a senior exemption please. Thank you
Mike
PS
We been making payment of $25.00 mt. For 2 years and now they sent us this letter.

Okay, this is REALLY a legal issue, not a tax issue.

However, some comments:

1) $25 per month is $300 per year. That will not even cover the INTEREST on your $8,000 property tax debt, which is probably WHY you got the letter and why they filed the lien.

2) As to whether they will try to take your mobile home, THAT is the LEGAL issue. I suggest you got to one of the free legal clinics and ask some lawyer to intervene on your behalf pro bono (no fee). Given that your only income is Social Security and given that the mobile home is not worth $8,000, I doubt the state property tax department will try to evict you and sell it for the taxes, but YOU NEVER KNOW!

THAT is why you need to get legal help to MAKE SURE it does not happen!
