I purchased a used 1999 sears Craftsman tractor model 917.273061 but previous owner removed all the decals from tractor. I would like to know what model this is? GT3000, GT4000, GT5000 or GT6000
Thanks

ThanksI do not think you have to go so much by the model number, but by the 917. Number you supplied.

Who makes 917.

131, 133, 355, 911, and 917 are all products made by the biggest maker for Sears which is AYP or American Yard Products. The 917 beginning is on almost all walk behind mowers with Tecumseh engines that were made before 2008. AYP is the only maker that does not actually build their own line of products. They just manufacture for the many brands that Sears carries, you could call them a sub-contractor. Any time you go to your Parts Supplier or Mechanic they will want the 917. Serial number more than the Model.

Here is the Owners manual (OM):
917.273061 OM (http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/lis_pdf/OWNM/L9910387.pdf)

I did look here for decals, and Sears Parts Direct (http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Craftsman-Parts/Riding-mower-tractor-Parts/Model-917273061/0247/1509200/P9020164/00002) sells them, but it only shows location, and not what the decals say.

It is starting to look like you will have to check with Sears Parts Direct or a really good Parts supplier.

If it is a 20hp with a 50" deck I would think you are at least in the GT4000, GT5000 range.

I am fairly certain this is your mower with a 20 hp Kohlor engine http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/lis_pdf/OWNM/L9910387.pdf Not so sure about the model though but do not recall any in this line that were GT anything, may be an L 1000 or LT 1000
