a car, initially at rest, is accelerated at 10m/s^2 over a distance of 40m.
what will the final velocity of the car be after is has travled 40m?

Use the formula
V_f^2 - V_i^2 = 2ad
where Vf = final velocity and Vi = initial velocity, which you know is zero. From this you can calculate Vf.

Use the formula
v^2-v_0^2=2ad
where v,v_0,a,d are respectively final velocity, initial velocity, acceleration and distance traveled.

Ops, I posted at the same time as ebaines (the screen did not refresh so I could know this only after clicking "Answer" icon, an admin can delete this my post without problems)...
