I have had constant lower back pain for five months now. To start with my doctor gave me anti inflamitories and sent me on my way.
After a month on these, I returned and said they made no difference in my pain.
He then mentioned it could be cause my an infection, so have me anti biotics and some pain relief, along with two weeks off work.
I wet back, still nothing.
I then asked to see a different GP at my practice, who actually took time to examine me, he poked and prodded, checked my reflexes etc.. He also sent me for an MRI, and also gave me local anaesthetic needles into my sacroiliac joint (as this is where the pain is)
As the needles wore off, the pain was worse than before, so I was back to square one.
I then made a trip to the emergency room, as it was getting that bad, an causing all sorts of problems with my work, they did x rays- nothing.
I went back to my doctor who could see rheumatoid arthritis in my sacroiliac joint, and could also see I have two bulging discs in my lower back, so he then sent me for a bone scan, and more x rays, and referred me on to a neurosurgeon and an orthopeadic surgeon.
The wait times for these are a few moths now, so for now I am on Valium (muscle relaxant) of a night, and OxyContin (morphine type tablet) of a day, I can't survive a full week at work. I can't walk long distances, can't lift anything heavy, can't sleep at night, the pain is often excruciating. Does anyone have any ideas? Any similar problems? Please anything..

Get the X-rays and copies of the other test results and take them to a chiropractor who has a good reputation around your area. I had much better luck with one than I ever had with MDs. But herniated discs are out of that realm. Just see what he or she has to say about the whole pain situation.
