Did your dentist suggest a root canal before crowning . Just wondering because you mentioned root canal.

Any root damage to your tooth would have shown up on the x ray, and if the dentist suspected this then he would not have capped the tooth. There would be no point.

When crown work is done, the gum line suffers somewhat which is understandable and no permanent damage results if gums are relatively healthy. Could be you are experiencing some discomfort from the work done and tooth settling, or you may have to have the occlusion done again, which is minimal grinding of the crown surface to match the bite.

If the crown is even the slightest bit too high at one cusp of the tooth, it will touch the tooth above it when you eat. That will create a force that can cause pain. I suggest you return to the dentist's office and have them check the surface contact by having you lightly tap the top and bottom teeth while there is a strip of dark blue "inked" paper between them. A bit of the ink will rub off on any "high" spots and the dentist can see where to polish down the crown.
