The black pipe does not go all the way to the dryer. Once the pipe comes through the wall you will transition to a yellow coated flexible copper pipe made for this installation. When you go to the hardware store you will see a display of different pipe connections so just llok for the one marked clothes dryer.

ballengerb1 gave you good advice. For saftys sake install a gas shut off valve,(see image) on the black iron pipe before installing the flexible connector. Tape the threads and as soon as you pressure up paint the joints with dish detergent. At the first sign of bubbles shut it down and redo the joint. Good luck. Tom

Both posts make good points, but give little information running black pipe. I am a big fan of ball valves like Tom pictured. Usually you come off a gas line with the tee pointed upwards to avoid moisture and dirt. Then elbow off in the direction you need to go. Measure the lengths of pipe you need. Most places that sell black pipe will also cut and thread it for you. Allow about an extra inch to screw into fittings. The stores also have a selection of short lengths of threaded pipe. Plan your job to use as many of them as you can. Post back with any more details you need.
