Bought a 1998 Dodge Ram Truck 3 months ago - worked fine until 2 weeks ago. It's my only vehicle & spent my last $500 to buy it; so I can't afford to fix it! Hoping I can figure out something! It started overheating after driving 5-10 minutes. Then it would "conk" out when changing gears. I replaced all the fluids (including transmission fluid). I also tapped on the fuel injectors to see if they were clogged since it seemed the problem was the RPM thingie wasn't working right & there was a rattle. Since replacing the fluids, there doesn't seem to be a problem changing gears; but when I let it "idle" for 5 minutes & just watched all the stuff under the hood, there was smoke coming from the back left of the engine (as I'm facing the truck)and it smelled like something was burning. Can anyone steer me in the right direction. Hoping it is something other than the transmission! Thanks... Molly

Could be a leaking valve cover gasket or a disconnected PCV valve if an older truck. Have someone look at it.
