79yr old with a deep productive cough, when I put my ear to her back I hear wheezing sounds. I have been giving her hot tea and robutussin dm. She can't expectorate the mucus because of mental health reasons. She has no fever. What can you recommend to break of the cold in her chest?

Has she seen a Physician? If not, she should. I appreciate it's more difficult when there are mental health concerns but that may be all the more reason to seek professional advice.

Even if you could break up the mucus on her chest she will still not be able to clear it away.

This lady must go to a doctor who will examine her thoroughly,then decide which is the best treatment for her,especially if this has been going on for sometime.
