Hello,
My tub is not draining at all, not one bit, less than a day earlier it was working just fine. I have plunged, snaked, and used chemicals. My drain pipe is in a heated space. I'm at a loss, so I'm starting to think wacky things like an animal has gotten into the vent stack and is stuck. Everything else is draining fine but I'm not sure if the tub has a separate vent. If it turns out that there is something stuck in the vent, how in the world do I get it out?
Please give me ideas and possible alternatives.
Thanks,
Michael Butcher

If everything else is draining, it is very unlikely that is the vent. More likely is a blockage between the tub outlet and the main line. If the tub drain is controlled through the overflow drain cover, remove the cover and the attached drain control. This might have matted hair and soap scum attached - see if the drain works now. If the drain is still blocked, try snaking through the overflow.

Thanks dc, I tried all that to no avail. I just got off the roof(an adventure in itself, let me tell you. Ice covered and slippery, but I can still type), and was able to peer down two vent stacks and could see no blockage. I'm at a loss, thinking about seeking professional help. If that doesn't work I may have to call a plumber. Anyway, don't give up on me, let me know if there is anything else I can do.
Thanks

The best answer here is to wait for Tom (Speedball1), who is great! He might very well say that you did not snake far enough. Are you sure you reached the main line?
Do you have any idea how the drains are laid out? The usual is that the tub drain connects to the lavatory drain, which has a vent, and then goes to the main. Your snake length should be at least that long.

Thanks again dc, I finally got it. There is not too much that is usual about my house, it used to be a house/apartment duplex that has been kind of melded at some points. Anyway, it took me about 2 days to get past the trap to get to the main line so the plug has been breached. After all that I kind of hated to pull the snake back out so I'm going to put some more chemical drain cleaner in it and hope for the best.
Thanks again
