My wife and I found out that we are about 6 weeks along. When we got our ultrasound done we found out that there is blood around the baby, what dose this mean? What is the best thing for us to do?

Hi newdaddy23,

Congrats on the pregnancy! Sometimes there can be some bleeding associated with the placenta. Most often the issue sorts itself out. Your doctor may want to do another ultrasound to compare and see if the blood has been reabsorbed. It is possible that your wife may have some bleeding, which is not altogether uncommon in early pregnancy, but if it does occur, she should let her doctor or midwife know.

There is the possibility that the placenta can be compromised and a miscarriage would occur. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do at this point but wait and see. Often it will be suggested for mom to take it easy and to refrain from intercourse until further assessment can be done and any signs of bleeding have been cleared up.

What did the doctor or midwife say about it?
