Hi,

I have been working in VA as a Software Engineer and my hourly rate is $50/Hr on C2C. I am currently on OPT and my employer is saying he is paying $7 for taxes every month. I have no idea how much tax(ALL TAXES) it would be for me. Please let me know how much he actually pay tax for me in a month and for 6 Months how much he has to pay. Please give me detailed reply.

Thanks,

Raj

No FICA (Social Security and Medicare) taxes are due because you are a student on a F-1 visa.

The only taxes you will pay is federal and Virginia state income taxes. $7 for every $50 sounds like the FEDERAL tax withholding. Virginia should be about 4% ($2 per $50).

Before the first week of Feb 2012 you will get Form W-2 from your employer. It will have info about your wages and income taxes withheld. Based on W-2 and any other income, you will file your federal and state income tax return. For federal income tax return you will use Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ and Form 8843.
