An ice-cube with a mass of 3.50g and a temp. of -4c is heated to melting. How many calories were used for this process?

What is the definition of a calorie? How much water is present and what is the temp differential between -4C and the freezing point of water?

1. Get the energy required to raise the temperature of the ice cube from -4 to 0 degrees Celsius
2. Get the energy required to melt the ice cube into liquid water.
