Short answer: if your doctor won't prescribe them, we're not going to recommend them.
The biggest factor is diet. And the general advice about a healthy diet is based on healthy young athletes, not the older middle-aged person.
Cut out all the white carbs from your diet: sugar, bread, pasta, rice, cereals, fruit juice, ready meals, rice cakes, anything like that.
Base your diet on fresh whole foods: eggs, oily fish, fresh meat, chicken, lots and lots of green vegetables, olive oil, cheese, some whole fruit. Eat when you are hungry, stop eating when you are not hungry. Wait until you are hungry before you eat again.

If you are on ARVs for something like HIV, you will need to talk to your doctor about getting you in touch with a nutritionist.

Things to do,
-Exercise "running" 5 times/week
-Try eating more fruits, vegetables and drink water.
Because fibers work like a magnetic and pulls fats out of your body.
I need to know your BMI to give you the ideal weight that should be achieved.
Good luck.
