I have not had a period yet after my daughter's birth and my husband and I have had unprotected sex 4 times in the last 4 weeks and we are wanting another child but I don't want to quit breastfeeding and wondering what are the signs while breastfeeding because my breasts have always been slightly sore. If I don't have a period yet when would I test and what are the odds. I breastfeed her once or twice at night for the last 2 months before that it was on demand and she still nurses every 3 to 5 hrs or so. Recently in the last 2 weeks she has only wanted to nurse 1 time a night for one side 5 or 6 minutes.

Without periods to go by, you will need to watch for other possible signs of pregnancy. You could always test once a month as well. Just choose the same day each month to test on.

When fertility returns while breastfeeding will be very individual, but you can expect to be fertile once baby starts to space out feedings, such as sleeping through the night and/or dropping more during the day.

Even when fertility has returned, it can take a number of months to become pregnant (just as before the first pregnancy). There's no need to stop breastfeeding.

Since you are trying, continue to keep the healthy habits you had the first time around, including your prenatal vitamin or multivitamin.
