I have a sump pump in a curtain drain in my yard. The discharge pipe is 3/4" and runs 150 feet to the storm water ditch with approximately 8 feet of lift from its position in the drain to the ditch. I've burned up two 3/4HP pumps in 10 months, but these pumps were recommending a 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" discharge. Is there a different pump that I could get rather then digging up the old line and putting in new line? The curtain drain holds approximately 110 gallons.

You have 3 things working againist you. The size of your pipe is wrong, your 8' of lift over 150' is too much weight for your pump. Finding a pump with a 3/4" discharge will fix the first issue and make the other two even worse. I'd recommend a 1 hp pump with a 1.5" discharge and dig up and replace the pipe, anything short of this is spitting into the wind.

But remember, spitting in the wind is still better than p**sing in the wind!

If it is in my house, I use Zoeller Sewer Ejector pump instead of sump pump. Moreover, install a check valve every 50 feet. First one should be about 12" from the pump discharge with hole drilled in the riser between pump and check valve. For such a distance, I would go with pipe no smaller than 1 1/2". Pipe can be PVC or ABS. Good luck. Milo
