We have cleaned out the pilot area and have relit it but it won't stay lit.

Won't stay lit?? While trying to light, it goes out? Or after it is lit it goes out? If you can light the pilot and it stays lit, turn the blower only on at the thermostat if it blows the pilot out you have a hole in your heat exchanger. DO NOT TRY AND USE THE SYSTEM!!
