How do I figure how many sheets of drywall I need for a new house?

Depends on size of s/r.a lot of new homes use 4by8 and 4by12.

If using 4by8, get the area measurement of every room that has to be done. Include halls, closets and any other space that has to be done. Add all square footages together. Add 10% and divide by 32.

Yes, agree with Chuck. Wall and ceiling area. Forget window and door opening subtractions, that's mostly waste unless you can use in a closet. Sub contractors are pretty hungry now, I buy the materials, drywall and mud, sub installs, ready to paint, for less than the cost of materials. They have the tools and expertise and I can't lift a 4X12 anymore!
