My basement floor has asbestos tiles. Are they dangerous? What I have to do?

They are only dangerous if they are broken and beginning to fray or otherwise coming apart. If they are, you need to contact a company that specializes in asbestos removal.

How do you know they are asbestos? Did you test? Disclosure statement? If you are going to cover them, nothing needs to be done. Many people glue down thin plywood and then retile or carpet or just direct glue down carpet over properly adhered tile.

How old are the tile? What is the size of tile?

The last year of production for asbestos tile or vinyl asbestos tile was 1979. If tile was installed after that year, it would be a composite tile with no asbestos in it.

If the tile are 9x9, they are asbestos.

I agree with all 3 posts. Are you planning on installing something new like carpet or new tile? However, just seeing a 9x9 tile is not an absolute test. http://www.asbestosresource.com/resources.html Also even non asbestos tiles can have cut back adhesive containing asbestos.
