I am a terminally ill person, fighting pancreatic issues and I am beginning to feel the effects of my pancreas's ceasing to function. For that I am required to take intra-venous (IV) Benedryl (a.k.a. Diphenhydramine) 50mg via IV and intra-venous (IV) Phenergan (a.k.a. Promethazine). I must take these IV meds. Four times a day. They must be taken IV because the Phenergan calms my nausea and vomiting, but I have an allergy to the Phenergan - it makes me very nervous and unsettled- but it is the only anti-emetic (nausea meds.) that keep me from vomiting up to or over 30 times a day. To treat the allergy, I must inject 50mg of Benedryll. This also must be by IV because I cannot keep the pills down not the Benedryll liquid. I have been on this regimen for the past 5 years and it is the only reason I have only been hospitalized only once during that time and the admission wasn't for the pancreas problems. Here's where I need some help. My local pharmacy and all the other pharmacies in the San Diego, CA county are completely out of the Benedryl IV, the hospital will only administer one dose (and I'm supposed to get this med. Every 4-6 hours. All of the local suppliers for Benedryl are also out and I have been told that they will not be able to re-stock until March 2012. By that time, I will probably be in the hospital and admitted more than 4 times. So, I am asking, please, please, if you know someone who is in the medical field and can get this drug please ask them to help me. I have a legitimate scrip for this and my pharmacist would welcome any help, as he is also racking his brain trying to find the medication I need to keep me out of the hospital. Thank you for you time, I hope someone can help with this serious issue.

There is in fact a "shortage" of Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride for Injection (http://www.ashp.org/DrugShortages/Current/Bulletin.aspx?id=845). I shall not interrupt your search by addressing the reasons therefor but encourage use of the internet to expedite your search.

Best of luck.
