My Kenmore washer model 110.28922790 won't spin, agitate or drain. The motor was working and during a cycle, a clicking/grinding noise was coming out of bottom of machine. The coupler of course... so I changed out the coupler, put it back together and when it should spin, it does nothing. You can hear the motor trying to turn but it sounds stuck. A burning smell came from the motor after a short period so turned it off. The motor was working for sure before the coupler broke, so I am thinking the Transmission seized, the pump seized, or? Clutch maybe? I don't want to replace Everything. Any tests on these parts. It seems the transmission will turn by hand with some effort. Should it turn easily? Can I test the pump. Is there a clutch? Thanks for the help!

Did you take the pump off and check to see if something is stuck in it? This would not explain the broken coupler but it is free and easy to check. A plugged pump would give you these symptoms. With the pump off you can use a socket extension to turn the litle hole that goes on the motor. It should turn easily and you can look inside at the impeller to see if something is jammed. If the pump is clear then you may be looking at a transmission.
