I am coming up to my first winter in this unit which has a Red T furnace made for mobile homes.

The model # is DGAA0077BDTA and the Serial # is 010113672. I have tried to get it running ready but it just won't even ignite. A repair guy who took forever to come and look at it after promising to be out later the day I called has said it is out of production and it is impossible to get any parts for it to service or repair.

But after googling it I have seen plenty of references to it being serviced, repaired and more, so he wasn't telling me the truth and I think he was just hoping to take advantage of a blonde on her own in a trailer. Well, lone and blonde doesn't mean stupid and I have no intention of accepting his offer of a new boiler at a bargain price around $2K!

So can anybody tell me what I should be checking to see why it won't ignite and work? It gets cold here in Michigan and is already heading that way some days, and I have even had to turn the oven on just to get warm a few times - can't afford to do that too many times! Thanks if you can help.

Well Im stumped. Why would he want to sell you a boiler when you have a forced air furnace? Never seen a boiler in a trailer house. Now, if your furnace is extremely old, some part on it may be obsolete. What I need to know is what he said was wrong with it. If it is a gas valve issue, you may be able to find one, if it's a pilot assembly issue or thermocouple, you most definatley can find one. If it's a burner issue, maybe. Blower motor, yes. And there are always universal electrical components to be found. However, if the heat exchanger is cracked, you most definitely will need a complete new furnace. And to tell you the truth, 2k is not a bad deal. I would suggest getting another tech in there and see what they have to say. They may be able to get you up and running, or at least give a another quote for replacement. That way you will have some options. There is no way to trouble shoot this without knowing exactly what is happening. Just one of those things. Did he even try to get it going, or just say, to bad, you need a new one. Let me know more about your situation and I will see what I can come up with.

"Boiler" was an error on my part when writing, should have been furnace but came out swapped and I didn't notice.

Thanks for the reassurance, replacing a part would be preferable to having to have a whole new unit!

He didn't really comment much, just boiled it down to there not being service parts available at all and it would need replacing. Let me cover a little more ground and maybe you can advise further. Thanks for at least confirming my suspicions that routine parts shouldn't be that difficult, hopefully there's a fix down that path one way or another.
