Hi,I have a 1999 dodge ram and the belt tensioner froze up on it.Has anybody ever been successful in taking it off and soaking it in something to get it working again? If so what did you use? It's over a 60.00 part.

It may be a sealed bearing, Junk Yards, Ebay?

Sorry I didn't mention the pulley is good and spinning. It's just the spring tensioner.

Usually if the bearing feezes up the spring isn't far behind. You didn't say which engine, but none of the belt tensioners for the three different engines run more than $41 at www.rockauto.com

Dayco, inventor of the serpentine belt for the original Ford Mustang, recommends actually replacing the tensioner each time the belt is changed. To many, that may seem a little extreme. In your case, I would definitely replace it--the damage from a failed tensioner can be extreme. Shop on the internet for the best deal you can find.
