I was rented a home by someone who doesn't own it... Now I'm being told I'm a squatter, can they make me and my 3 kids leave the home?

As for your question, if the person who leased the home to you did not have authority to do so then the owners of the home can file a lawsuit to have you evicted. However you can go after the person who leased the home to you and sue them for your damages. You may also be able to report them to the police for fraud.

Correct there are no squatters rules. They were wrong in calling you a squatter. If anything you are a trespasser, though an unwitting one. And there are trespassing laws.

Have you tried seeing if the owners are willing to rent to you and negotiate a lease with them?

Next time, check the leasing agents credentials and make sure they are authorized to rent the property. Unfortunately they are a lot of scammers out there. While you were victimized here, so were the owners.

As already stated, yes and yes. You can be evicted, you are not paying the owner rent. Yes, those "rules" do not exist, at one time there were squatters rights but not now. In what state is this home located?

2. exactly who rented to you, a son of the owner, a rental, management or real estate company ?
3. you did not rent from someone off craigslist where they mailed you a key and you sent money western union ?

If the person who rented, had a legal right to rent by contract with the owner, that is different, So without some info is needed as to what happened
