A diver running 2.3 m/s dives out horizontally from the edge of a vertical cliff and 2.0 seconds later reaches the water below.
How high was the cliff? And How far from its base did the diver hit the water?

1. Find the vertical and horizontal components of the initial velocity of the diver.

2. Use s = ut + \frac12 at^2 with the vertical component to get the vertical height of the cliff.

3. Use s = ut with the horizontal component of the velocity to get the horizontal displacement (how far from the base) the diver hit the water.
