I purchased a Hamptom Bay ceiling fan, Brookedale II. It comes with a remote control and I do not want to use the remote. The remote receiver comes packed separate, so it has to be wired in anyway. The Owner's Manual states "Do not connect the fan with a wall mounted variable speed control". I am woundering if I can connect a wall mounted four way toggle switch, hi-medium-low and off, to the fan?

Do you have two sets of wire or cable going to the fan, if not your wall switch will power the fan AND the light in the same settings. Is that what you want, when you set the fan low the lights will be on low too. You can use a stepped switch for the fan if its rated for a fan, otherwise you may kill the capacitor.
