Just looking for some opinions atm.

OK so I'm 20 and currently studding to become an IT tech. I currently live in a town of about 20,000 people. The job prospects arnt huge, the place is relatively isolated (because its on an island about half the size of england).

However I see what my friends are doing, going places, doing things in other parts of the world, stuff like that and I really want to get involved with exploring the world.

Though at the same time I'm a fairly grounded person, I don't like to move around too much. This is quite contradictory though and I don't know why.

God is a farmer, he strategically plants people in specific spots and helps them grow.
Therefore he planted me where I am because its part of his plan right?

I'm kind of torn between wanting to do my own thing (understanable at my age, fresh out of school) and being where God needs me.

Ideas?

Christianity has lots of different opinions about God's hand in where we start and end, and what we do in between. If you just wait for the plan to unfold in front of you, all the efforts to be a good person are meaningless. Hence the notion of free will.
You are torn between doing your own thing and God's plan, but you also imply that you are torn about what your own thing is - exploring the world or staying where you are.
You can do both, just not at the same time. Why not explore, and if it's not to your liking, go back? That's what youth is all about.

Sometimes God directs someone to a specific location. Most of the time, he leaves that open to you. There is no "dot in the center of God's will" that you have to find or your life is ruined. God gives you the freedom to choose career, location, life partner, hobbies, and all that. As long as you are doing your best to honor him and reflect him, you can go where you want to go. If he has a specific place for you, it'll become clear. In the meantime, go someplace interesting and explore. God will be perfectly happy with your decision.

I used to struggle with God's will a lot as well. You are right, he does plant us where we are in life, but that's not meaning we have to STAY there. If you want to be inside of the will of God all you need to do is know His word. Start there and He will take care of the rest. If you desire to see the world... God made it, go see it. I never knew what a call from God would feel like until it happened. Trust me, you'll know if God is pulling you in to something. The rest is your choice... he did give you free will you know. If you desire to get off your island... have at it, God is with everywhere we go.

Actually if you read the bible, none of the Apostles stayed planted, in fact it was their travels that spread the word.
Paul traveled most of the known world also spreading the word.

God may have a plan, but it may or may not mean you stay in one place. God has sent me for example, to almost every part of the earth from time to time. Often I had no idea why for many years afterwards. Often don't expect to know the plan while it is happening. Paul did not know why he was taken prisioner, He did not know why his ship sank.

God gives you the desires of your heart. What it takes is being really committed to him. Knowing Jesus enhances our life and our world view changes
